Over the years, we’ve seen our durable BRUTE® bins used to store and shift a huge range of things, from holding coffee beans and nachos to brewing beer and storing doughnut dough. So when we donated some BRUTE®s to Dudley Zoo and Castle, we knew they’d come up with some wild innovations – and they certainly didn’t disappoint!
As a conservation-focused charity, Dudley Zoo looks after a range of rare and endangered species, helping to protect wildlife and educate the public about them. With this partnership they could use the BRUTE®s as a new tool to help enrich the animals’ environment and support their wellbeing.
Adding some fun to feeding time
We built our BRUTE®s to be durable – and Dudley Zoo really put them to the test by using them as feed buckets for their resident ruffed lemurs.
Zoo staff could easily store the large 20kg feed bags in the containers, which also protected them from damp, sunlight, and any pests trying to steal the food for themselves.
The containers were durable enough to handle being dragged around by staff members, and stand up to hungry lemurs at lunchtime!
BRUTE® is registered foodsafe by EU standards for all foodstuffs, not just mealworms and monkey treats...

Feed buckets that can handle monkeying around
Dudley Zoo is home to several capuchin monkeys and geladas, a type of baboon. Like other primates (including us!) they’re pretty smart, so zookeepers are always working hard to find new ways to engage their brains. For example, putting their food in a harder-to-reach place, which is more engaging than just getting it handed to them.
Using a circular drill, the team cut large holes into BRUTE® bins, then filled them with hay and the monkeys’ favourite foods. It encouraged the geladas and capuchins to get their food in a more enriching way, meeting both their physical and mental needs.
Dudley Zoo’s resident gelada family were a little cautious of the giant yellow BRUTE® at first, but they quickly warmed up once they realised it was full of treats.
Using enrichment strategies like these feed buckets is just one way that the zoo team ensure these animals get the best quality of life possible.

A cosy home for creepy crawlies
Some of Dudley Zoo’s invertebrate inhabitants, like the critically endangered Seychelles millipede, need deep layers in their habitat to burrow into. BRUTE®s durable plastic material meant the millipedes could burrow down into the soil, but the smooth material also stopped them from climbing out.
BRUTE®: Built for any job
So, when we say BRUTE® is built for any job, we do really mean it. Okay, your business may not need to feed lemurs, but it’s always handy to have a high-capacity durable container around.
BRUTE® is designed with performance and versatility in mind, including a range of ergonomic features:
If you have a job for our BRUTE®, whether that’s recycling or rhino enrichment, reach out to a member of our team, who will be happy to help.
